Trade your Mark: From Mic to Millions: How Trademarks Turn Names into Gold

Writer's picture: Amy NAmy N

Ever wondered why some singers make a ton of money without even singing? It’s because they use their name as a brand. When a famous person puts their name on a product, like perfume or clothes, people buy it because they love that celebrity. This is called trademark licensing.

Let’s break it down. A singer trademarks their name so that no one else can use it. Then, they allow companies to use their name on products. Every time someone buys those products, the singer gets paid. It’s like turning their name into a money-making machine.

But what about regular people like us? Can we do the same thing? The answer is yes, kind of. If you have a small business or a unique product, you can trademark your name or brand too. This means that no one else can use it, and you can build your own brand.

Imagine you have a special recipe for cookies. You can trademark the name of your cookie business. As your business grows, your name becomes known, and people trust it. One day, you could have your own line of cookie products, just like the singers with their perfumes and clothes.

So, while you might not be a famous singer, you can still use the same idea. Protect your brand, work hard, and who knows? Maybe one day, your name will be on products that everyone wants to buy. Remember, even the biggest stars started small – why not start with your own name?
